
Kinston Beats Lynchburg 4-3

Kinston scratched out a 4-3 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats, Tuesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, Kinston got to Lynchburg starter Cory Rasmus. With two outs and Adam Abraham on first base, Doug Pickens hit a double. Delvi Cid was then hit with a pitch to load the bases. Tyler Holt then walked to drive in Abraham and tie the score at one. Justin Toole would break that tie with a bases clearing double, giving Kinston a 4-1 lead. Rasmus (0-5) gave up four runs on four hits in six innings.
Lynchburg came back with a two-run home run by Geraldo Rodriguez in the top of the third inning, cutting the Kinston lead to one. It would be the last run Kinston starter T.J. House would give up. House (2-4) got the win, giving up three runs, on eight hits in six innings. House walked four and struck out three.
The K-Tribe bullpen held on from there. Tyler Sturdevant went 1 2/3 innings, giving up one hit while walking and striking out one. Sturdevant left the game to Preston Guilmet with two on and two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Guilmet came in and got an inning ending ground-out to preserve the lead. Guilmet gave up a lead-off single in the top of the ninth inning, but retired the next three batters for his sixth save of the season. Guilmet has not given up a run in 12 1/3 innings (11 appearances) of work this season.
Kinston's Tyler Holt went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Holt's consecutive on-base streak is now at 17 games, the second longest in the Carolina League this season. Holt is now hitting .303 on the season.
The K-Tribe continues the homestand with a 6:30 pm Wednesday start at HIstoric GRainger Stadium. Cleveland first round draft pick Drew Pomeranz will get the start for Kinsotn. Every Wednesday is MIlitary Appreciation night where Military members and there families get in free. Wednesday nights also feature $1 hot dogs.
