Keys and Dash Suspended in Fifth Inning

May 6, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md.-The Frederick Keys and the Winston-Salem Dash were suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to rain on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field. This contest will be completed on Thursday morning starting at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a seven-inning game to complete the series.

Currently, the Dash hold a 3-2 lead with 4.5 innings completed. Winston-Salem grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first off Keys starter Mitch Horacek, who allowed a two-out triple to Chris Jacobs with Jake Peter and Trey Michalczewski aboard. In the third, the visitors added to their lead thanks to a solo home run by Adam Engel.

Horacek walked three over five innings, but used the strikeout to his advantage. Punching out a career-high 11 batters, the former Dartmouth product struck out the side in each of his last three innings. He scattered five hits.

Making his first start in 613 days, Dash starter Jake Cose allowed one run on two hits over three innings to go along with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. Frederick plated its first run in the third on a fielder's choice with runners at the corners. With Brenden Webb at bat, Trey Mancini got into a rundown between first and second, which allowed Tucker Nathans to scamper home from third. One inning later, Webb hit a solo home run to right off Andre Wheeler to pull the Keys within a run.

Both sides have not announced their probable pitchers for the completion of Wednesday's game. In game two, the Keys will start right-hander David Hess (1-2, 4.39) against Dash righty Matt Heidenreich (4-0, 0.76). Thursday is STEM Day at the ballpark, with gates scheduled to open at 10 a.m. For tickets, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at garnold@frederickkeys.com.
