Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - The fans at San Manuel Stadium got quite a gift on Christmas in July night Friday, as Alex Keudell threw the Inland Empire 66ers (56-50, 19-17) first nine inning complete game since 2010, defeating the High Desert Mavericks (53-52, 19-16) 6-2.

Alex Keudell took the mound Friday night looking for his third consecutive quality start, and he got that and then some with his performance against the Mavericks. The right-hander out of Oregon went the distance allowing just two runs on eight hits, striking out five Mavericks without allowing a walk.

Offensively Zach Borenstein, the California League leader in batting average, tied the game in the 3rd with an RBI sacrifice fly, and the 66ers took the lead on a double from Joel Capote, sending Gary Mitchell and Abel Baker across the plate.

Inland Empire added runs in the 5th and 8th on an Abel Baker triple and a Joel Capote single respectively.

Capote ended the night with two hits and three RBI, but the star of the show was Keudell. The nine inning complete game was the first for a 66ers pitcher since the team became an Angels affiliate in 2011. The last Inland Empire pitcher to accomplish the feat was current Major League starter Nate Eovaldi who went the distance on July 3rd, 2010.

Inland Empire will go at it with High Desert again on Saturday, and with a well rested bullpen. It will be Used Car giveaway night at San Manuel Stadium, presented by Toyota and Scion of San Bernardino, where fans can drive home in a new (for them) car.
