Lancaster JetHawks News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks stellar pitching was rewarded after Chris Epps' towering go-ahead home run in the 10th inning led to a 2-1 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at LoanMart Field on Friday.

After Epps homer took the lead, the Quakes put two men on base with two outs against Travis Ballew. With Scott Schebler pinch-hitting, Rodney Linares went to Kenny Long out of the bullpen. Long struck out Schebler on three pitches to end the game and pick up his fourth save.

Blair Walters (5-1) picked up the victory after retiring all eight batters he faced in relief. The left-hander struck out the side in the ninth inning to send the game to extras.

Mike Hauschild was solid in his second start with the JetHawks. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

The Quakes took an early 1-0 lead when Bobby Coyle his a solo shot off Hauschild with one out in the second inning. Lancaster's arms wouldn't allow another run to cross the plate.

Quakes starter Lindsey Caughel held the JetHawks' bats at bay until the seventh inning. With one out and a runner at first base, Joe Sclafani hit a taylor-made double play ball to the shortstop Darnell Sweeney who bobbled the ball and was only able to get the out at second base. Carlos Perdomo took advantage with a game-tying double down the left field line.

Reliever Blake Smith (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing the home run to Epps with one out in the 10th.

The JetHawks (23-13, 62-44) take on the Quakes (17-19, 48-58) in the second game of the series at 7:05 p.m. in Rancho Cucamonga. Kyle Hallock (4-2, 6.59) will make the start for Lancaster.
