Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - A season-high six errors led to four unearned runs as the JetHawks lost, 7-5, to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at LoanMart Field.
Lancaster got on the board first in the third when Chris Epps walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Delino DeShields' ground ball to shortstop.
Starter Kyle Hallock (4-3) was unable to hold on to the lead. Rancho Cucamonga scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Lancaster committed to errors in the inning, including the second of four errors for Carlos Perdomo, which led to two unearned runs.
Matt Duffy hit his 16th home run in the fourth inning and Brandon Meredith followed with a single and eventually scored on a Ryan McCurdy fielder's choice to tie the game.
Chris Jacobs hit a leadoff home run off Hallock in the fifth inning which ended the night for the JetHawks' starter. He allowed seven hits and four runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and three walks.
Michael Dimock entered out of the bullpen and gave up three straight hits which led to two runs. In all, the Quakes scored three times in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Rancho Cucamonga scored another unearned run in the seventh inning when Perdomo committed another error with a runner at third base and two outs.
The JetHawks pulled closer in the eighth after McCurdy and DeShields started the inning with back-to-back doubles. Perdomo and Andrew Aplin drove them in with RBI-groundballs. M.P. Cokinos tripled later in the inning but was left at third base to end Lancaster's final scoring threat.
Eric Eadington finished the game to pick up his sixth save. Matthew Shelton (4-0) picked up the win after throwing 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The JetHawks (23-14, 62-45) will play the Quakes (18-19, 49-58) in a rubber game on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. in Rancho Cucamonga. Luis Cruz (7-5, 5.19) will make the start for Lancaster.
