Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Chris Epps' solo homer in the tenth inning put the JetHawks ahead to stay, as Lancaster held off Rancho Cucamonga's tenth-inning rally for a 2-1 win on Friday night at LoanMart Field.

Epps took Blake Smith (1-1) deep to give the JetHawks their first lead of the night in the top of the tenth, Rancho's third extra-inning game in the last four nights.

Lancaster reliever Travis Ballew nearly coughed it up in the last of the tenth, as he walked a pair of two-out hitters and threw a wild pitch in between. With runners at the corners and two away, Scott Schebler was called upon to pinch hit for Casio Grider. The JetHawks made a move of their own, bringing in lefty Kenny Long from the bullpen. Long threw Schebler three consecutive sliders out of the zone, with Schebler chasing the last two for the last out of the game. Long, who hasn't been scored upon in nine Cal League outings, collected his fourth save with the punch-out.

The Quakes tallied their one and only run in the second, as Bobby Coyle went deep for the fourth time in three games and for the 11th time this year, a solo-shot off JetHawks starter Michael Hasuchild to make it 1-0.

Quakes' starter Lindsey Caughel was incredible on Friday night, taking a shutout into the seventh. The JetHawks caught a break with one out and a man aboard in the seventh, as Joe Sclafani's would-be double-play ball was mishandled by shortstop Darnell Sweeney, who was only able to get one out. With the inning still alive, Carlos Perdomo followed with a two-out RBI double down the left-field line, evening the game at 1-1.

The Quakes (17-19, 48-58) now must win two straight over Lancaster in order to keep their current winning streak of six straight series alive. Rancho will send Jharel Cotton (0-0) to the mound on Saturday night, as he takes on Lancaster's Kyle Hallock (4-2) at 7:05pm.

1,500 fans will take home a free Quakes' cap, thanks to U.S. Bank, so be here before gates open at 6:05pm. Everyone will also enjoy a post-game Fireworks Display, also thanks to U.S. Bank. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
