Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls will officially begin its 2015 Red Kettle Campaign at Young Arena on November 7th during the Waterloo Black Hawks' 7:05 p.m. game against the Omaha Lancers, the team announced Wednesday.
An array of local Salvation Army programs are supported from funds received each winter in the organization's iconic red kettles. Last year The Salvation Army served over 3,100 Cedar Valley families, provided 70,437 free meals, sheltered 540 individuals, and supplied nearly 13,000 Christmas gifts to needy families in Black Hawk County. To continue making these efforts possible, The Salvation Army's 2015 Red Kettle Campaign goal is $730,000.
"It is a pleasure to partner with the Waterloo Black Hawks as we start our 2015 Red Kettle Campaign," said The Salvation Army's Development Director, Grace Kole. "Through the support of community-minded individuals and organizations such as the Black Hawks, lives are being positively impacted and changed through the work of The Salvation Army in Black Hawk County."
Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene added that The Salvation Army is known universally as an organization which provides hope to those in need.
"It is wonderful that just the dollar or two at a time shoppers contribute as they visit their local stores during the holidays can add up to so much good in the community. We are proud that The Salvation Army is working with the Black Hawks to start this essential campaign."
In addition to the November 7th kickoff event, Black Hawks players will be ringing bells and standing beside kettles in front of local Hy-Vee stores on the mornings of Thursday, November 19th and Tuesday, December 1st. Contributions made while the players are on hand will be counted as votes for the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year Award. Details as to specific times, locations, and participating players will be released at a later date.
Fans interested in learning more about The Salvation Army's work in the Cedar Valley can find additional information at sawaterloo.org. The website also includes details about ordering discounted Black Hawks tickets for the game on November 7th. For each ticket purchased as part of the offer, the Black Hawks will donate a ticket for a future game to The Salvation Army's youth program.
