
Storm Acquires F Collin Rutherford for Cedar Rapids

Kearney, Ne. - The Tri-City Storm has acquired forward Collin Rutherford from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, General Manager and Head Coach Bill Muckalt announced Wednesday.
In return, the Storm have sent forward Sam Sternschein to Cedar Rapids.
"We are very excited to add Collin to our roster," said Muckalt. "We look forward to helping him in his development."
Rutherford, 17, is a Dartmouth commit from Tonawanda, NY. In one game this season, Oct. 24 against Sioux Falls, Rutherford attempted two shots on goal.
The 5-foot-7, 143 lb., right-handed shot competed with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres U-16 and U-18 clubs from 2013-15. He was drafted in the seventh round, 112th overall, by Cedar Rapids in Phase II of the 2015 USHL Entry Draft.
In 2014-15, Rutherford won a New York State Tournament title with the Jr. Sabres. Eighteen Jr. Sabres have been drafted by NHL clubs, including former Montreal Canadiens Captain Brian Gionta. Current New Jersey Devils forward Lee Stempniak played for the Jr. Sabres and also played for Dartmouth.
Between 2012-14, Rutherford was a 3-time selection for USA Hockey's National Camp.
His father, Scott, is a former collegiate hockey player at Buffalo State.
Sternschein accumulated one goal with the Storm in seven regular season games.
"We wish Sam all the best in the future and thank him for his contributions to the Storm," said Muckalt.
The Storm is home with a pair of games against Waterloo on Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30. Both games start at 7:05 p.m. Thursday is "Throwback Thursday" night. Check out "Free Kids Friday" and "Camo Night" on Friday against the Black Hawks.
