Capitols Land 5th in USA Hockey Magazine USHL Power Rankings
October 28, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - For the first time in team history, the Madison Capitols leaped into the top five in USA Hockey Magazine's weekly USHL Power Rankings.
The Capitols made the leap by virtue of a seven-game stretch that has seen Madison go 6-1-0 while outscoring their opponents by a 27-12 margin. Goaltenders Ryan Edquist (Lakeville, Minn.) and Garrett Metcalf (Salt Lake City, Utah) have been tremendous, combining for a .927 save percentage this season.
Offensively, the Capitols have been explosive, with six players recording seven or more points through the season's opening month. Madison set a club record by scoring eight times in an 8-1 defeat of Team USA on Oct. 16, led by Alexandre Payusov (La Salle, QC, Canada), who registered a hat trick on that evening.
The Capitols ranked third among Eastern Conference teams in the poll, trailing only the Dubuque Fighting Saints (2nd) and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (3rd). Madison will face each of those teams in the month of November, with five combined meetings against the conference foes.
Madison will look to make it seven wins in eight games on Friday, Oct. 30 as they host the Omaha Lancers at the Alliant Energy Center. Fans are encouraged to bring the young ones to the game for trick-or-treating on the main concourse all evening long. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS.
