Kernels Turn Back Sky Carp 5-1

July 14, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT - The Beloit Sky Carp can't seem to find a solution to the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

For the third straight night, the Kernels dispatched the Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium, this time coming up with a 5-1 victory.

It was a tight pitcher's duel for the majority of the game, with the Kernels carrying a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning. Cedar Rapids added a pair of insurance runs to make it 4-1, then added another for good measure in the ninth.

A crowd of 1,875 enjoyed the Thirsty Thursday promotion, while both party decks were jam-packed with groups lounging in the 80-degree weather.

After allowing two runs in the top of the first inning, Beloit starter Patrick Monteverde was terrific, finishing his evening with six innings and just one earned run allowed.

The Sky Carp scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning when Davis Bradshaw, who finished the game with three hits, singled home Nasim Nunez to cut the advantage to 2-1.

The Sky Carp and Kernels will go at it again Friday, with the game starting at 6:35. Gates will open at 5:30 for a Fireworks Friday. Fans will also get the opportunity to bid on Black Panther jerseys that the players will wear during the game.
