
Kernels rally for win

GENEVA, Ill. â Solo home runs by Sean Rodriguez and Matt Pali in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Kernels past the Kane County Cougars, 3-2, Friday night at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium.
The Kernels (6-2) moved into sole possession of first place in the Midwest League's Western Division, one game ahead of Kane County (5-3).
The game was tied, 1-1, heading into the ninth. Rodriguez's one-out home run to left broke the tie. One out later, Pali belted his first homer of the season, adding an insurance run.
It was a run the Kernels needed. David Harriman homered leading off the Kane County ninth, cutting the Kernels' lead to 3-2. Two outs later, the tying run reached based when Luis Perez walked. Brian Ingram grounded out to first to end the game.
Micah Posey (2-0) allowed three hits and one run in the final four innings to earn the win. Chris Hunter started and allowed three hits and one run in five innings.
Rodriguez and Pali had two hits apiece for the Kernels, who had seven hits. Blake Balkcom's RBI single in the Kernels' seventh scored Rodriguez and tied the game, 1-1.
Former Center Point-Urbana prep Chris Tritle was 0-for-3 for Kane County.
The Kernels continue their four-game series at Kane County on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
