Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
Starting pitcher Ryan Feierabend worked 7-2/3 strong innings and Oswaldo Navarro chipped in with three hits and an RBI to help the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Sam Bradford and Chris Collins each added a pair of hits and an RBI. The Rattlers are at the .500 for the first time this season.
Wisconsin (4-4) took the lead in the first inning. Josh Womack scored from third on a two out wild pitch. Womack preserved the 1-0 lead when he threw out a runner at the plate for the final out of the top of the second.
The Rattlers extended that lead to 3-0 in the second. Bradford drove in a run with a two out single. The base hit for Bradford broke an 0-for-14 slump to start the season. Navarro knocked in Bradford with a double to rightcenter on the very next pitch.
The Chiefs (3-5) got on the board in the top of the third on a lead off home run by Sal Frisella.
Collins put the Rattlers back up by three with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Collins pushed another run across the plate when he grounded into a double play in the seventh.
After the homer by Frisella, Feierabend retired twelve straight Peoria batters. Matt Dryer snapped that string with a lead-off double in the eighth. Feierabend, who did not make it out of the second inning in his first start of the season, set down the next two batters. But, a walk to Milko Jaramillo ended the young lefty's night. Juan Ovalles came out of the bullpen and got the final out of the eighth.
In the ninth, Peoria loaded the bases with two out against Ovalles. Brian Stitt entered and got pinch hitter Cody Haerther to ground out to end the game.
Game two of the scheduled four game series is Saturday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. Nibaldo Acosta (0-1, 0.00ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Peoria will send Miguel Aguero (0-1, 11.25ERA) to the hill. Game time is 1:05pm.
