
Kernels Fall 6-5 in Ten

Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Davenport, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels were walked off 6-5 on Wednesday evening by the Quad Cities River Bandits. Kyler Fedko and Mikey Perez each had a pair of doubles on the night while Brooks Lee went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in his Kernels debut. Cedar Rapids falls to 61-43, 18-20 in the second half.
Jake Rucker put the Kernels up early with a leadoff home run to right-center in the first. Quad Cities struck back with one in the second and two in the third, taking a 3-1 lead into the fifth.
Dylan Neuse brought Cedar Rapids within one with a 440-foot blast out to left in the fifth, then the River Bandits got one right back to make it 4-2.
Lee opened the sixth with a rocket single into right-center then Aaron Sabato drew a walk. Following a flyout, Fedko poked an RBI double into right to plate Lee. Pat Winkel followed with a run-scoring groundout before Perez hammered a go-ahead double off the center field wall.
Quad Cities tied things right back up in the sixth as both bullpens settled in to send the game to extras deadlocked at 5-5.
Brad Hanner struck out four over 1.2 innings of one-run ball while Bobby Milacki added four strikeouts across 2.1 frames to cover the middle innings. Jon Olsen struck out the side in the eighth then Ryan Shreve fired a scoreless ninth.
After the Kernels stranded their runner on third in the tenth, Quad Cities walked it off on a bases-loaded walk with one away in the home half.
Game three of the series is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Thursday evening in Davenport.
