(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (57-45) moved to 2-0 in their series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (44-60) with a 5-4 win on a pleasant Wednesday night at Classic Park.

After two straight groundouts to begin the bottom of the fifth, Captains shortstop Angel Martinez reached base on an infield single, and advanced to second on a TinCaps throwing error. This play extended Martinez's on-base streak to 21 games.

In the next at-bat, on a two-strike count, Lake County third baseman Milan Tolentino hit an RBI double, cutting Lake County's deficit to 3-1.

After a Joe Naranjo walk, on an 0-2 pitch, reigning Midwest League Player of the Month Johnathan Rodríguez would hit a three-run home run, his 18th home run of the season. It gave the Captains a 4-3 lead, their first of the night. Lake County would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

Following a scoreless sixth inning from both sides, Captains right fielder Alexfri Planez would hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to extend Lake County's lead to 5-3.

In the top of the eighth, TinCaps second baseman Olivier Basabe hit an RBI single to make it a 5-4 game. However, Captains relief pitcher Zach Hart would pick Basabe off at first, ending the top of the eighth with Lake County still in front.

In the top of the ninth, Fort Wayne catcher Anthony Vilar would reach base with a hit-by-pitch. Soon after, TinCaps left fielder Albert Fabian would hit a double to deep left-center field, but Vilar was thrown out at home to end the game.

Fabian also hit a solo home run, his second of the season with Fort Wayne, in the top of the first inning.

For Lake County, center fielder Petey Halpin extended his on-base streak to 30 games with a second inning walk. He also robbed Fort Wayne center fielder Joshua Mears of a home run in the top of the second.

Starting pitcher Aaron Davenport recorded his third win of the season, striking out six in five innings pitched. Also, relief pitcher Raymond Burgos picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

For the TinCaps, Mears hit a two-run home run, his 13th of the season with Fort Wayne, in the top of the fourth inning. Starting pitcher Dwayne Matos suffered his fourth loss of the season with the TinCaps, surrendering six hits, four earned runs, and three walks in 4.2 innings pitched.
