Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Kent Simpson has been reassigned from the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

Simpson, 22, started the year on the Sound Tigers roster but was sent to the ECHL prior to the season opener against the St. John's IceCaps. The netminder is in the final year of a National Hockey League entry-level contract.

The Islanders acquired the 6-foot-3 Simpson in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks in which they also received Nick Leddy. The Blackhawks received Ville Pokka, T.J. Brennan and Anders Nilsson in the deal.

Originally a second round draft pick in the 2010 NHL draft by the Blackhawks, Simpson has played four games in the ECHL this year between the Thunder and Colorado Eagles. He has posted a 2-2-0 record with a 3.78 goals against average and an .897 save percentage.
