Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets closed out a seven game home stand with a win on Wednesday, defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2 in front of 6,038 fans at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
Brett Bulmer had a goal and two assists while Kevin Smith and Zach Franko each had two helpers to help the Rockets to a 4-3 record on the home stand.
Shane McColgan, Damon Severson, Carter Rigby and Colton Sissons, into an empty net, also scored for the Rockets while Adam Brown earned the win in net, facing 23 shots.
Nick Buonassisi and Cam Braes scored for the Hurricanes, who had won four in a row coming into the game.
The Rockets led 2-1 after two periods of play on goals from Bulmer in the first and Severson in the second. Bulmer tipped in a Franko shot on a nice passing play with Smith drawing the second assist. Severson finished off a nice three-way passing play in the second period with Franko and Smith drawing the assists just as a Hurricanes penalty had expired.
Lethbridge opened the third by tying the game in the opening minute but the Rockets scored three straight to close out the win in the team's final home game before Christmas.
Kelowna now hits the road for six straight games in the WHL East division prior to the Christmas break. The trip begins this weekend with games in Swift Current on Friday and in Moose Jaw on Saturday. The team will also play in Brandon, Regina, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
The Rockets next home game is Dec. 27 against Spokane.
