July 6, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats had everything going on Saturday, taking both games over North Adams by scores of 8-2 and 6-3.

David Sosebee, University of Georgia, toed the rubber in the first game.

Sosebee (1-1) picked up the win and limited the Steeple Cats to only two runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Michael Murphy, the starter for North Adams, came into the day with a 1.19 ERA but would see that number rise significantly.

The Swamp Bats jumped all over Murphy early, scoring once in each of the first three innings. JP Sportman, Central Connecticut University, drove in Dylan Moore, Cyprus College in the first. In the second, St. John's Zach Lauricella went deep for a solo shot, his team leading third home run of the season. JP Sportman doubled in another run in the third, to give Keene a 3-1 lead.

Keene pulled away in the fourth, pushing across five runs, in large part of JP Sportman's three RBI double. Dylan Moore also walked in a run and Matt Ford drove one in on an RBI single.

Sosebee surrendered his second run in the fifth inning, but would be all that North Adams would score as Keene took the first of two 8-2.

The second part of the double header got started just around 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

For the Swamp Bats, Nick Neumann, out of Central Connecticut State, was on the mound to start this one, and has his best outing of the summer.

Neumann (1-3) went five strong innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

The Swamp Bats got the offense going early again against North Adams, this time putting up three runs in the first inning. Rutger's Brian O'Grady and Hofstra's Matt Ford each recorded a bases loaded RBI single and Zach Lauricella drove a run in on a sacrifice fly.

Daniel Nichols, from the University of Georgia, put two more on the board with a mammoth two run shot to center field.

Lauricella picked up his second RBI of the game with a double in the fifth to score O'Grady which made the score 6-1.

Louisville's Jordan Simons relieved Neumann in the sixth after Neumann allowed a single to North Adams' Joe Landi. The first batter Simons faced, Cody Doyle, hit the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to make it a 6-3 game.

But Simons got out of the sixth without further damage, and then James Connell pitched a scoreless seventh to seal the deal.

With the sweep over North Adams, Keene's record now stands at 7-12 on the season. The Swamp Bat's ended the week taking four of five games in the four day stretch.

Keene will have an off day Sunday and then will be back on the road for a battle against the Plymouth Pilgrims.
