Bay Sox Fall in Extras

July 6, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

For the second night in a row the Bay Sox went into extra innings, but the Plymouth Pilgrims snapped their 3-game win streak with a 7-5 victory at Paul Walsh Field Saturday night.

The game was tied going into the bottom of the 11th when the Pilgrim's Vin Guglietti (Quinnipiac) hit a 2-run double off the right field wall to help the Pilgrims to their sixth win of the season.

The Bay Sox had the winning run on third base with one out in the bottom of the tenth but failed to get the run in.

The Bay Sox led the game until the top of the 8th but couldn't close the deal.

Trevor Lacosse (Bryant) inherited runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs in the top of the 8th. After getting the first out, Lacosse nearly got out of the jam with a 1-out groundball to Lane Richards at shortstop, but Richards threw the ball away after stepping on second for out number two and allowed the tying run to cross the plate.

Chris Shaw (Boston College) launched his 3rd home run of the year over the right field fence giving the Bay Sox a 5-3 lead in the 5th.

The Pilgrims would cut down the Bay Sox lead in the 7th after Andrew Santomauro (Lafayette) double to the right field gap. Adam Young (UC Davis) followed that up with an RBI single to make it 5-4.

Not wasting any time, the Bay Sox and Pilgrims both put runs on the board in the first.

Plymouth scored in the first when Steven Patterson (UC Davis) roped a two out double to left field to drive in Santomauro (Lafayette). The Bay Sox quickly answered in the bottom of the inning after a Shaw base hit and a Chris Travers (Roger Williams) fielder's choice, giving the Bay Sox a 1-run lead.

Rallies came again in 4th as both teams matched each other with a pair of runs.

Plymouth took the lead in the top of the inning on singles from Ryan Stephens (Middle Tennessee St.) and J. C. Coban (Penn St.).

New Bedford answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Max Nogay (W. Virginia) doubled to score Travers, tying the game at 3. Following Nogays double, Plymouth's pitcher Harrison Stanwyck(UC Davis) walked Carl Anderson (Bryant) to load the bases. Kurt Seiders (Millersville) walked with the bases loaded to make the score 4-3 Bay Sox after 4.

With the loss the Bay Sox fall to 8-13 on the season. The Bay Sox's next home game is Sunday night against the Holyoke Blue Sox at 6:30 PM at Paul Walsh Field.
