North Adams SteepleCats News Release
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - After leading North Adams back to the playoffs last summer and guiding the team to a 10-10 start this summer, Bryan Adamski has announced his resignation as head coach of the SteepleCats following the conclusion of Saturday's doubleheader at Keene, as announced today.
Adamski, the 10th head coach in the 12-year franchise of the history, was named head coach of the Trinity College baseball team earlier this week, and after accepting will begin his new post in Hartford, Conn., next week.
"I truly enjoyed my tie here in North Adams and owe this franchise so much," Adamski mentioned. "I will miss the team, volunteers, and the members of the organization. I wish the team nothing but the best moving forward and have all the tools in the place to win a Fay Vincent Cup."
"Bryan has been a great coach and friend for the last year and a half and has helped shape the outstanding team we have on the field this season, and shared this franchise's vision of consistency, professionalism and community during his time with the SteepleCats", team President Dan Bosley noted. "We are going to miss him and his leadership, but we are tremendously excited for his opportunity to become a Division III baseball head coach, and needless to see we're all Trinity fans now."
Under Adamski's tutelage, North Adams posted a 22-20 record last summer and returned to the postseason for the 10th time in 11 seasons. The SteepleCats forced a third game in the NECBL Western Division Semifinals before bowing out to eventual league runner-up Danbury.
Returning for a second summer, Adamski - a former UMass standout - has navigated the team through the first month of the year with an even 10-10 overall record. He will have the opportunity to go out on top tonight, when the SteepleCats travel to Keene for a makeup, seven-inning doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Alumni Field.
Regardless of tonight's results, Adamski will finish fourth all-time in managerial wins in SteepleCats history, entering the evening with a 33-32 career mark. His current .507 winning percentage also ranks fourth in franchise history.
In his wake, second-year pitching coach and longtime South Hills High School (Covina, Calif.) head coach Kevin Smith has been tabbed interim head coach and will serve that post through the remainder of the 2013 season. He and current assistant coach Jason Szafarski will look to lead the 'Cats to their 11th postseason appearance in 12 tries this summer.
Entering the second half of the season, North Adams currently sits tied for third place with a chance to make up more ground after Saturday's results. The SteepleCats trail first-place Vermont by 4 1/2 games with 24 contests remaining before the postseason.
