North Adams SteepleCats News Release

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Former SteepleCat and Arizona Diamondback Cole Gillespie has been promoted to the San Francisco Giants' active roster, as announced Friday night.

Gillespie appeared in the lineup during San Francisco's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Gillespie, a 2002 SteepleCat alum, batted seventh and started in left field and finished the night with four plate appearances.

It marked Gillespie's first stint in The Bigs since last playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks two years ago. Since 2010, Gillespie has played in 51 Major League contests with 26 hits and 13 runs, totaling three homers and 16 RBI during that span.

Before his promotion, Gillespie was batting .277 with nine homers and 31 RBI in 74 games with the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA). He joins 2005 North Adams alum Joe Smith (Cleveland) as the only two active Major Leaguers from the SteepleCats organization.
