Kapler to Play for Sea Dogs on Friday

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox newest acquisition, Gabe Kapler, will play for the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday, June 27th. The Red Sox signed Kapler to a Minor League Contract on Tuesday, June 24th. The Sea Dogs play a doubleheader against the Altoona Curve beginning at 6:00pm on Friday.

Kapler, 27, was a top prospect for the Detroit Tigers. He was the key player involved when the Tigers traded him to the Texas Rangers for Juan Gonzalez in 2000. In his six Major League seasons, he has posted a .270 average with 101 doubles, 51 homers, 225 RBI, and 57 stolen bases.

Kapler appeared in 39 games with the Colorado Rockies this year and 13 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs before being released on June 19. At the Major League level this season Kapler was hitting .224, with 10 runs, two doubles, and 4 RBI.
