Reading Fightin Phils News Release
When former Reading Indians first baseman Joe Altobelli walks onto FirstEnergy Stadium June 26, the memories likely will come at him in waves.
He will glance at the other infielders from the 1953 team that won a Reading franchise-record 101 games that year - second baseman Jim Cleverly, shortstop Billy Harrell and third baseman Rudy Regalado - and many of the memories that 50 years has endeavored to erase likely will come into focus.
Altobelli and the other Indians who will be on hand that night for the annual Hall of Fame game and ceremonies - the 1983 team also is being honored - surely will be surprised by the upgrades to what was Municipal Stadium when they toiled here. But, remember, the old girl was just a year old when the 1953 club came north that year, so there had to be a buzz in the air over their playing digs.
HOMESTAND ENDS WITH HALL OF FAME NIGHT AND FIREWORKS
Darren Daulton will attend HOF ceremony The R-Phils homestand concludes on Thursday with Reading Baseball Hall of Fame Night, presented by US Airways, the Reading Eagle and ESPN 1240 AM. The 1953 Reading Indians and the 1983 Reading Phillies will be inducted as teams prior to the game.
