Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the team has signed goaltender Kevin Kapalka and forward Thomas Stajan to Standard Player Contracts.
Kapalka, 26, hails from Mississauga, Ontario and spent his four-year collegiate career with Lake Superior State University (NCAA), where he played a total of 111 games.
After his rookie season in the NCAA in 2010-11, he earned NCAA (CCHA) All-Rookie Team Honours as the best rookie goaltender in his conference. He has four games of pro experience in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads in 2013-14, where he suited up for four games and posted a 3.64 GAA with a .871 save percentage.
Stajan, also a Mississauga native, will be no stranger to Beast fans having already suited up for one game with the club this season, in addition to a 13-game stint with the club in its final season in the Central Hockey League in which he recorded four assists and two penalty minutes.
To make room for Kapalka, goaltender Jimmy Sarjeant has been released from his contract. He suited up for five games with the Beast but did not see any action behind starter Trevor Cann.
The Beast are back at the Powerade Centre this weekend as the Toledo Walleye come to town on Friday, November 20 at 7:15PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25. Trial Packs for the 2015-16 season are also available starting at $39.99 that include three game tickets.
