Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Ryan Knippschild (2-0) gave the T-Bones six scoreless innings as Kansas City (6-1) finished off a three-game sweep of the Schaumburg Flyers (1-6) with a 3-1 victory this afternoon at Alexian Field.
A product of the University of Kansas, Knippschild faced just one over the minimum through three and two-thirds innings before consecutive singles and a walk by Schaumburg loaded the bases with two out in the fourth. After going 3-0 on Brandon Newton, Knippschild battled back to a full count before inducing a groundout to end the threat.
The Flyers put two runners on with two outs in the sixth on an error and a base hit, but Knippschild got a popout from Dylan Parzyk to end the frame.
Knippschild allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out one to earn his second victory in as many starts this season.
Keanon Simon gave the T-Bones a 1-0 lead against Cody Evans (0-1) with two outs in the third on a solo home run, his first of the season. With the knock, Simon has now reached safely in all seven T-Bones games this season.
Evans allowed two more runs with an RBI double by Jacob Blackwood and RBI single from Jim Fasano in the fifth as Kansas City pushed their lead to 3-0. The Schaumburg right-hander was charged with three runs on seven hits in five innings in the loss.
The Flyers struck for their only run against reliever Brett Davis in the eighth when Chris Schultz began the frame with a walk and later scored on a one-out single by Joe Nowicki. Drew Graham took over for Kansas City after the base hit and retired the next two batters to end the inning.
Schaumburg put runners on the corners with one out against T-Bones closer Justin James in the ninth inning. The former University of Missouri hurler then induced a double-play groundout from Travis Brown to end the contest and secure his third save of the year.
