Schaumburg Swept By Kansas City At Home
May 27, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
The first series at home did not go the way the Flyers (1-6) wanted with a series sweep at the hands of the T-Bones (6-1). Schaumburg has now dropped the past six in a row with today's 3-1 loss.
Today the Flyers pitching did all it could to keep the game close. Starter Cody Evans went 5 innings and gave up only 3 runs on seven hits in his outing. Yet, the relief effort for Schaumburg was even better. Tom Lyons and Ben Reeser both pitched two innings each and did not allow a run to score to keep the Flyers close, but it was the bats that could not get enough run support for their pitching.
The Flyers hitting managed seven hits today, but came up just short. Schaumburg scored just one run in the game in bottom of the eighth off of a Mike Mooney single which scored Chris Schultz. The hot hitters for the Flyers today were Mike Mooney, Joe Nowicki, and Brandon Newton. Each had two hits and combined to account for six of the seven Flyers knocks today. Schaumburg had a chance in the ninth inning to bring the game to within one or possibly tie it up with runners on first and third and one out. But a hard hit ball by Travis Brown up the middle was gloved by Jimmy Mojica and the Kansas City shortstop easily turned the double play to end the game.
Tomorrow the Flyers continue their homestand against the Gary Southshore Railcats looking to break out of their six game losing streak. First pitch scheduled for 6:45 PM. It's also one of the season's Fireworks Nights, so come out to see a show on the field and in the sky!
