Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - Adam Klein spoiled Kyle Ruwe's no-hit bid. Late offense by the Gary SouthShore RailCats spoiled the rest of the night for the Rockford RiverHawks.
Ruwe took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Thursday, but the RiverHawks were held to six hits and the right-hander took a 3-1 loss in front of 2,118 at Road Ranger Stadium.
Klein bounced a ground-rule double over the fence in right-center field to end Ruwe's no-hit bid with two outs in the sixth inning. Mike Massaro singled him home. The RailCats added insurance runs on a RBI single by Tanner Townsend in the seventh inning and one by Jeff Beachum in the ninth inning.
Ruwe (0-1) struck out only one, but walked just two and held Gary to four hits over eight innings.
Gary starter Brad Halsey (1-1) scattered three hits over six shutout innings. Andy Shipman gave up a sacrifice fly to Jono Brooks in the ninth, but earned his second save.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes visit this weekend. The series opens at 7:05 p.m. Friday. It's Road Ranger Free Gas Friday and the Friday Fish Fry. Postgame fireworks are also scheduled.
