Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Logan Glass' three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning is all the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (10-4) needed on offense, with the home team scooping their fifth win of the week over the Charleston RiverDogs (5-9), 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Atrium Health Ballpark.
RHP Peyton Pallette tossed a masterful three innings on Sunday, allowing no runs or hits, striking out two and walking one. RHP Manuel Veloz (W, 1-0) followed out of the bullpen, earning his first win of the season. The righty from Venezuela walked three and allowed two runs on three hits, but struck out two in his four innings of work, helping keep Kannapolis in front.
The Ballers' only runs of the game came in the bottom of the second inning, with Glass blasting his fourth home run of the season into left field, scoring Troy Claunch and Layant Tapia as well, to push Kannapolis ahead 3-0 early.
Charleston attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh, but only mustered two runs in the frame. Kamren James started the inning with an RBI triple, scoring Chandler Simpson to cut the lead to 3-1. Two batters later, Julio Meza added an RBI with a groundout, allowing James to cross the plate and inch closer at 3-2.
Despite efforts from the RiverDogs, the Ballers used effective pitching late from Johnny Ray (H, 3) and Billy Seidl (S, 4) to keep Charleston off the basepaths late and clinch victory.
Kannapolis now sets their sights on a six-game road trip to Zebulon to face the Carolina Mudcats, Low-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, April 25-30. The Ballers return home to Atrium Health Ballpark May 2-7 for a six-game stretch against the Augusta GreenJackets, Low-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
Fans can purchase tickets for any remaining home games at kcballers.com or at the F&M Bank Box Office located at Atrium Health Ballpark.
