Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La.---Captains starter Alex Kaminsky (W, 7-2) won his third straight start since joining Shreveport-Bossier as the Captains held off a late Ft. Worth rally to beat the Cats 6-5 at Fair Grounds Field Sunday evening.
Kaminsky struck out six and walked one while allowing just two runs on six hits in six innings. He is 3-0 as a member of the Captains and has allowed just four earned runs in 20 innings of work.
Robert Perry had his third three-hit night of the week, going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Chad Gabriel added an RBI and a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
Shreveport-Bossier gave Kaminsky an early lead to work with as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first off Cats starter Wade Mackey (L, 7-5). Palmer Karr Jr. and Gabriel each plated runners with base hits and Andres Rodriguez's fielder's choice grounder scored Karr Jr. to make it 3-0 after one.
Three straight base hits with two outs in the third put Shreveport-Bossier up 4-0 as Brian Peterson scored Gabriel with a base knock.
Ft. Worth got on the board in the fourth when Will Calhoun came home on a Trent Lockwood single. The Captains, however, would get the run back in the bottom of the frame when Perry's double scored Jonathan Johnson.
The Cats would make it 5-2 in the fifth on an RBI single scoring Cory Morales. Again, Shreveport-Bossier would go back up by four when Mike Provencher doubled with two down in the sixth and came home on Perry's base hit.
Ft. Worth came to within a run in the eighth inning. A two-out RBI double by Lockwood was followed by a two-run single off the bat of John Allen against Captains reliever Jameson Maj to make it 6-5. But Maj would get Aljay Davis to fly out to center with the tying run at first to end the inning. Hector Carrasco pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strike outs to earn his second save of the year.
With the win, the Captains improved to 43-48. They currently trail the Gary SouthShore RailCats by 6.5 games for the Wild Card spot with nine games remaining. The Captains go for the series victory in game four against the Cats Monday night at Fair Grounds Field on the final Jose Cuervo Margarita and Maker's Mark Monday and Ladie's Night.
