Lincoln 3, Winnipeg 2 (10 innings)
Saltdogs CF Kurt Steinhauer was the first man in the batters box for Lincoln on Saturday. He was also the last. With the score tied at two runs apiece in the bottom of the 10th inning, Steinhauer singled in Brandon Jones from second, and the Saltdogs won the game, 3-2. Steinhauer was the only Lincoln player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. And while the Goldeyes had 11 hits to Lincoln's six, Winnipeg left 10 men on base in the game. That's four more than the Saltdogs' total of six. Winnipeg held leads of 1-0 and 2-1. But Lincoln's late-inning heroics voided those early advantages.
Amarillo 3, Kansas City 2
The Sox got all the runs they would need to beat Kansas City, 3-2, in the sixth inning. Amarillo scored their runs in the frame thanks to four hits and a Nick Farnsworth sacrifice fly. Farnsowrth also had one of the game's nine hits. The Sox registered six of those, while Amarillo pitching surrendered only three to Kansas City. One of the T-Bones' hits was a second-inning solo home run from 1B Jim Fasano that gave KC a 1-0 lead. That score held into Amarillo's three-run sixth. Starting Sox pitcher Justin Garcia struck out 11 Kansas City batters in seven innings to pick up his eighth win of the year.
Sioux City 3, Sioux Falls 2
The Explorers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, and the combination of starting pitcher Jason Jarvis and relievers Eddie Delacruz and Emiliano Fruto did just enough to hold off Sioux Falls and take a 3-2 victory. In two and a third innings, Delacruz and Fruto combined to give up just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Fruto's ERA now sits at 2.05. At the plate for Sioux City, LF TJ Bohn walked twice and went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. For Sioux Falls, CF Reggie Abercrombie scored a run on his 2-for-4 night.
Shreveport-Bossier 10, Fort Worth 1
Captains 3B Andres Rodriguez hit two homers and batted in five runs to help his team take a decisive, 10-1 victory over Fort Worth. Rodriguez now has 15 long balls this season. While Rodriguez & Co. were piling up the runs, Captains starting pitcher Josh Strawn was striking out nearly a batter per inning, registering six K's in six and two-thirds innings pitched while allowing just one run on six hits. Shreveport-Bossier LF Chad Gabriel led all players in hits, going 4-for-5 with a run and two RBI. The lone Cats came run when 1B Trent Lockwood singled in RF Marcos Rodriguez. Lockwood went 2-for-4, and he and Rodriguez were the only Cats batters with more than one hit.
Wichita 8, Gary SouthShore 5
The Wingnuts scored a run in all but two innings and racked up 16 hits en route to an 8-5 win against Gary SouthShore on Saturday. With the win, the Wingnuts are tied with Gary SouthShore for Central Division lead. Wichita 3B Juan Richardson hit his 11th homer of the year while going 3-for-5. The RailCats tied the score, 3-3, in the fourth, plating three unearned runs on three hits with the help of a Wichita error. Starting Wingnuts pitcher Nick Singleton gave up no earned runs - he was on the mound during the RailCats' three-run third - in six innings, allowing five hits while striking out four RailCats batters. Gary SouthShore SS Brian Kolb went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the losing effort.
St. Paul 10, Fargo-Moorhead 9
The RedHawks scored nine runs on 11 hits in the second and third innings, but managed only four hits outside of those frames. And a consistent St. Paul attack eventually gave the Saints a 10-9 win. St. Paul 3B Ronnie Bourquin tied the score at nine with a solo home run in the fourth inning. And a seventh-inning Adam Frost sacrifice fly gave St. Paul its advantage. The Saints held the first lead of the game after putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first, and a four-run second gave them a 7-5 advantage. But Fargo-Moorhead's four-run third kept the RedHawks on top until Bourquin's homer.
Grand Prairie 4, El Paso 2
The AirHogs climbed out of an early, 2-0, deficit and defeated the home-standing El Paso Diablos, 4-2. Grand Prairie tied the score in the fourth inning on a John Alonso double. Two innings later they took a 3-2 lead when DH Joey Gomes singled in David Espinosa for Gomes' only hit of the night. Starting AirHogs pitcher Tim Brown rebounded well after allowing two first-inning runs, giving up just the two scores and six hits in eight innings of work. The win was Brown's first with Grand Prairie after coming to the team from Lincoln. Diablos DH Maikol Gonzalez went 2-for-4, doubled and scored a run from the leadoff spot.
