Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
The Pensacola Ice Flyers travelled to Huntsville to take on the Havoc Saturday night and came away with a 4-0 victory, taking all four points in their two game road weekend.
Jesse Kallechy received the nod in net for the Ice Flyers in both games and only allowed one goal on 63 shots throughout the two games. After only allowing a single goal against the Mississippi RiverKings Friday night, he stood tall between the pipes, earning his 1 SPHL career shutout. In the three games he has played in an Ice Flyer jersey, Kallechy is now 3-0, allowing only 2 goals, has a 0.67 goals against average, a .979 save percentage, and now has a shutout to his stats.
It became official Thursday night that Pensacola would be in the playoffs when the Fayetteville FireAntz lost to the Augusta RiverHawks. Now that the goal of making the playoffs was achieved, the Ice Flyers are working to maintain home ice advantage in the first round.
Andrew Harrison was the first scorer of the night just four minutes in with assists from two former Havoc players, Ryan Salvis and Dan Buccella. Adam Kuhn, who is playing in his third game since missing seven and a half weeks with a broken jaw, made it 2-0 for the Ice Flyers near the end of the second. Salvis and Buccella drew the assists on the second goal as well.
It was the line of Andrew Howes, Jordan Chong and Chris Wilson to make an impact in the game in the third period. Howes scored 3:15 into the final period as his two line mates set him up for his 6th goal since joining Pensacola. Four minutes later, Wilson made it 4-0 when buried his team leading 27th goal of the season; Chong drawing the assist.
Shots on goal for the game were in favor of Huntsville 32-29. All three games stars were from Pensacola: Kallechy was named the first star with his shutout performance; Buccella received the second star with two assists; and Chong rounded off the three stars with his 2-assist game.
Ice Flyers return home for the next three games. Friday night is Air Force Appreciation Night at 7:05 PM when the Fayetteville FireAntz come to Pensacola for the first time this season. The team's "Friday Night" jerseys will be auctioned off after Friday's game. The same two teams will face off Saturday as well for a special matinee game starting at 3:05 PM. Then Columbus battles Pensacola on Tuesday at 7:05 PM.
