Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Game Rewind The K-Wings faced their first leg of their three games in three nights last Wednesday night (11/24) at Wings Stadium against the Fort Wayne Komets. Early in the opening period, the Komets took the lead on a wrap around goal from Rob Guinn (3). In the late stages of the first period, the K-Wings struck back with an equaling goal from Yannick Carpentier (4). Fort Wayne regained control of the game by scoring the game's next two goals to take a 3-1 lead. In the second stanza, the K-Wings attempted a comeback, as rookie forward Sean Starke (1), scored his first North American professional goal on a deflection off of a David Struch shot to make the score 3-2 in favor of Fort Wayne; however, it would not be enough, as the Komets scored two goals in the third period to defeat the K-Wings by the final of 5-2.
It was feast or famine on Thanksgiving, as the K-Wings traveled to Kansas City, Missouri to battle the Outlaws. After a scoreless opening period, the K-Wings jumped out to a two-nothing lead. First it was Chad Allan (2) slamming in a rebound past Kansas City's Maxime Gingras to give Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, the K-Wings capitalized on a power-play when Ryan Barnes (3) scored the eventual game-winning goal to give Kalamazoo a 2-0 lead. Kalamazoo's Joel Martin was stellar between the pipes stopping 32 of 33 shots he faced, as he recorded his first victory of the season in the K-Wings 2-1 victory over Kansas City.
For the second time in as many nights, the K-Wings would stay in Kansas City on Friday (11/26) to play the Outlaws. Kansas City leaped out to an 2-0 lead scoring a goal in each of the first two periods of play. Kalamazoo's lone goal of the contest occurred in the third period, when rookie forward Sean Starke (2) scored his second goal of the season and the week, when he split the defense and scored on a breakaway. In the final minute of play, the Outlaws added an empty net goal to beat the K-Wings 3-1.
