PORT HURON, MI-CN, one of the largest railroads in North America, is teaming up for a second year with the Port Huron Beacons to set up a community ticket initiative to recognize and offer hockey tickets to people who volunteer and work for local charities and community organizations.
"The CN Community Ticket Program is a great way for us to say thanks to the many people who work so hard to make Port Huron a better place to live and work," said CN's Joe Kingsbury, Assistant Superintendent.
The CN Community Ticket Program was launched in 2003 and involved partnerships with junior hockey and minor league baseball teams in the United States and Canada. This year, CN has doubled the size of the program, partnering with teams in even more cities that have a strong CN presence.
The sports teams are embracing the program with great enthusiasm. In many cases, the CN program complements the teams' existing community outreach programs.
Gino Giacumbo, General Manager of the Beacons, said, "We are excited to be working with CN on this ticket program. We are receiving a tremendous response from the local organizations we have contacted."
"Teams like the Beacons are well connected with their communities, and have plenty of great ideas about deserving ticket recipients," added Kingsbury. "Typically, these include volunteer firefighters, emergency-measures organizations, and volunteers who put in long hours with charitable organizations to improve the quality of life in their community."
CN has a long tradition of supporting charitable and non-profit organizations. Through its community investment program, it is committed to helping build safer, stronger communities where its employees live and work and where it has significant operations and facilities.
