The K-Wings started the week on Friday (1/23) as they played the first half of a home and home series on the road against the Flint Generals. Kalamazoo got the scoring started just 1:28 into the game, when Tyler Willis (2) connected on a one-timer from the slot to give the K-Wings an early 1-0 lead. Thirty-one seconds after the K-Wings took the lead; the Generals stormed back with a Jim Duhart (27) power play goal. Midway in the opening period, Kalamazoo regained the lead for good, as Pat O'Leary deflected a Nick Bootland pass past Jan Chovan to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. The K-Wings extended their lead to 3-1 with just under 9 minutes left in the first period, as Jeff Turner lit the lamp for his team leading 25th goal of the season. Kalamazoo concluded the period's scoring when Bootland found Daniel Carriere (7) to give the K-Wings a 4-1 lead after the opening period. After a scoreless second period, the Generals would start the third period by scoring the game's next two goals, including a second goal from Duhart. However, with the K-Wings up 4-3, it would be Kalamazoo that would put the game away with three unanswered goals, including two from Andrew Luciuk, who capped off a season high four-point night, as the K-Wings defeated the Generals by the final of 7-3.

Kalamazoo finished off their home and home series against the Flint Generals the following night (1/24) at Wings Stadium. The K-Wings started the game's scoring late in the opening period, when Jeff Turner (26) snapped a wrist shot past Dan McIntyre to give the K-Wings the 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Generals received the equalizer in the form of Bobby Reynolds' 17th goal of the season. With the score knotted a 1-1, the K-Wings would score the eventual game winner, when Yannick Carpentier extended his season high five game scoring streak on his 12th goal of the year. K-Wings goaltender Chad Alban set aside 20 shots to record the two game sweep over the Generals, as Kalamazoo edged out Flint by the final of 2-1.

The K-Wings were chasing history as they hosted the Rockford IceHogs at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo brought in a franchise tying 11 game home unbeaten streak into the Sunday (1/25) afternoon contest. Like the two other games this week, the K-Wings scored the games first goal. Marty Flichel's (13) power play goal just under three minutes into the game gave the Kalamazoo the 1-0 lead. Rockford scored a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1 midway in the first period, when Kenzie Homer (3) deflected a shot past Chad Alban. Kalamazoo finished the period by scoring two unanswered. First it was Nick Bootland (22) tallying his first goals as a member of the K-Wings to regain a 2-1 lead for Kalamazoo. Next, it was Flichel (14) jamming in a rebound off of a shot from Pat O'Leary to give the K-Wings a 3-1 lead after one period. Rockford cut the Kalamazoo lead to a single goal just over one minute into the period as Maris Ziedins scored his third goal of the season to make to the K-Wings lead 3-2. However, the K-Wings dominated the remainder of the game. Kalamazoo extended their lead to 4-2, when David Hukalo found Andrew Luciuk (13) who lifted a shot over the shoulder of Paul Schonfelder. In the third period, the K-Wings put the game out of reach, as Marty Flichel (15) recorded the K-Wings third hat trick of the season to give Kalamazoo a 5-2. Kalamazoo continued the offensive onslaught with a pair of goals from Tyler Willis (3,4). The K-Wings concluded the historic day when Flichel found Bootland (3) for a breakaway goal to give the K-Wings the 8-2 victory over Rockford. The 8 goals scored by Kalamazoo tied a franchise record for goals in a game. Marty Flichel's five points also ties a K-Wings record for most points in a game. The victory for Kalamazoo extends their winning streak to four game and sets a new franchise record for longest home unbeaten streak (12 games).

Fast Forward

The K-Wings will look to extend their season high four game winning streak as they play three division foes. Kalamazoo will open up the week on the road on Wednesday (1/28) as they travel to Moline, Illinois to play the Quad City Mallards. So far this season, the K-Wings are 3-0-2 against their division. Wednesday will be a big game for Kalamazoo, who trails the Mallards by seven points for third place in the Western Conference; however, the K-Wings do have four games in hand over the Mallards.

On Friday (1/30), the K-Wings finish off their abbreviated two game road trip as they play the Missouri River Otters at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO. The K-Wings are 2-0-0 against Missouri this season, with both victories over the Otters occurring at the Family Arena.

The K-Wings will finish off the week, as they try to extend their new franchise record 12 game home unbeaten streak when they host the Rockford IceHogs on WKFR Singles Night. Rockford will be seeking to avenge their 8-2 defeat to Kalamazoo last Saturday at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo holds the season series lead over Rockford with a record of 3-1-2. The K-Wings hold an eight point lead over the IceHogs for fourth place in the Western Conference and still have a five games in hand over Rockford.

Throwing the Hats

For the second straight week a K-Wings player recorded a hat trick. Marty Flichel's hat trick was the third this season by Kalamazoo and first from someone else other than Jeff Turner.

Finding the Back of the Net

Kalamazoo had an offensive explosion last week. The K-Wings scored an incredible 17 goals in their three games during the week.

Just Win

The K-Wings start the week on a season high four game winning streak. Kalamazoo's four game winning streak is just two wins shy of the franchise record.

Rewriting History

The K-Wings will be looking extend their new franchise record 12 game home unbeaten streak as they host the Rockford IceHogs this Saturday. Kalamazoo broke the old record of 11 games, which was originally set during the 2001-02 season. Kalamazoo has not lost a regulation game at home since November 21st.

Record Day

The K-Wings 8-2 victory over Rockford proved to be a record day for Kalamazoo. Besides extending their home unbeaten streak to 12 games, a few other records were also tied. The K-Wings tied franchise records for most goals scored (8 goals) and points registered by a player (Marty Flichel 5 points).

The Obscure Stat of the Week

The K-Wings have been almost perfect this season when they lead after two periods of play. The K-Wings are 16-1-2 this season when leading going into the final 20 minutes of play.
