Kahaulelio, Guerra Help Wingnuts Win Two

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (44-21) picked up two victories over the Amarillo Sox (33-28) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night, winning 8-4 in the continuation of Tuesday's suspended game, and then 4-1 in Wednesday's originally scheduled contest.

Tuesday's game re-started in the top of the seventh inning with the score tied 4-4. Nick Walters and Daniel Bennett combined for three perfect relief innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Madison Beaird reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice from Jared McDonald. McDonald was safe at first when Sox' reliever Kristhiam Linares attempted to force out Beaird at second base. Ryan Khoury beat out a sacrifice attempt to load the bases with no outs. Jake Kahaulelio won the game with a grand slam home run down the left field line. It was the first walk-off grand slam in team history, and the Wingnuts' first walk-off home run since June 2nd, 2012.

Walters earned the win in relief, while Linares took the loss.

In the nightcap, Junior Guerra fired seven shutout innings to earn the win. Guerra allowed seven hits, three walks, and struck out seven.

Khoury led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field and the Wingnuts led through the end of the game.

With second and third and two outs in the bottom of the third, Abel Nieves singled up the middle to score John Rodriguez and Brent Clevlen to make it 3-0.

Guerra worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top of the fourth, and escaped first and second with no outs in the fifth.

Wichita drew four consecutive walks with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to scratch across their final run. C.J. Ziegler picked up an RBI.

Lincoln Holdzkom worked a scoreless top of the eighth, while Josh Dew recorded the final three outs in the ninth.

Wichita drew nine walks in the win. All nine starters reached base at least once.

Brad Wilson took the loss for Amarillo, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six and two-thirds innings. Wilson walked four and struck out three.

The Wingnuts begin their annual NBC road trip this Friday at Grand Prairie. First pitch at QuikTrip Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on Oldies 92.7 KWME and worldwide at www.pressboxproductionsradio.com

This year's trip runs 16 games over 17 days and totals 4,633 miles from start to finish. The Wingnuts play at Grand Prairie and El Paso before traveling to the east coast to face the Can-Am League's Newark Bears, Rockland Boulders, and New Jersey Jackals.
