AirHogs hold on and sweep in 2-1 win

Grand Prairie- In a game that came down to the final play the Grand Prairie AirHogs were able to hold on and sweep the El Paso Diablos in a 2-1 ballgame Thursday night at QuikTrip Park. Up 2-1 with two outs in the top of the ninth, the El Paso Diablos were threatening with a runner on second. Pinch hitter Devin Thaut hit a ball away from right fielder Kenny Held. Held picked up the ball and fired to Angel Flores who blocked the plate and prevented the tying run from scoring. All this coming after the AirHogs managed to gain a run in the bottom of the eighth to lead 2-1.

Having a big game for the AirHogs was Brian Myrow who went 2-for-3 including a home run that tied the game early on at 1-1. Myrow also had a triple later in the game. Bubba Dotson went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI on a shot down the left field line. Andres Rodriguez would score from second on that hit. Rian Kiniry went 1-for-3 with a triple as he blazed around the bases.

Brandon Bargas started on the mound for the AirHogs and left with a no decision after going seven innings allowing one run on five hits. Bargas struck out four Diablos. Getting the win was Justin Dowdy who is now 2-3 on the season. Dowdy allowed no runs and no hits striking out two of the three batters he faced in an inning of work. Patrick Mincey picked up his 14th save of the season allowing two hits but no runs in the ninth.

Friday night will be the opener of a three-game series between the Wichita Wingnuts and the Grand Prairie AirHogs at QuikTrip Park. Game 1 will start Friday at 7:05 P.M.
