Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Game Rewind Friday, December 26th @ Flint (Kalamazoo 8-Flint 3)

Flint, MI - Trailing 3-1 in the second period, the Kalamazoo Wings persevered and registered seven unanswered goals, including four in the second stanza to cruise past the Flint Generals 8-3.

Scoring on the most exciting play in sports, the K-Wings took a 1-0 lead on a penalty-shot goal 4:23 into the opening period from Mark Nebus. Nebus, who was tripped going in on a breakaway, scored his team-leading 15th of the year on the ensuing penalty shot.

The penalty shot was the K-Wings' second this season, both of which have come against the Generals. The last was back on November 28th, which was unsuccessfully attempted by Tommy Lange.

Flint pulled even late in the first with a shorthanded goal from Greg Bullock (11th). Bullock deflected a blast from the point from Martin Ondrej to record the Generals' first shorthanded tally of the season.

In the second period, Flint exploded with a pair of goals from Josef Fojtik (16th) and Steve Rymsha to give the Generals a 3-1 advantage. The goal from Rymsha was his team-leading 17th of the year.

Just 16 seconds after Rymsha gave the Generals a two-goal cushion, the K-Wings started to chip away at the lead. With the K-Wings in the penalty box, Glenn Detulleo (11th) created a turnover at his own blue line, went in on a breakaway and recorded his team-leading 33rd point of the season.

Three minutes later on the power-play, Lange found a wide open Justin Cross, who snuck into the slot. Cross one-timed the pass past Bill Zaniboni to record his first goal of the season.

Reclaiming the lead 12:42 into the period, Anthony Battaglia scored on a right circle slap shot to give Kalamazoo a 4-3 lead. The K-Wings closed out the scoring in the second with Cross' second tally of the night, which gave the forward a three-point game (2 goals, 1 assist).

Kalamazoo continued the offensive onslaught in the third receiving goals from Jason Robinson (2nd), John Glavota (1st) and Blair Stayzer (2nd).

The victory keeps the K-Wings in first place with the Port Huron Icehawks in the IHL standings and improves their record against the Generals to 7-0-0-0.

Saturday, December 27th @ Muskegon (Muskegon 3-Kalamazoo 2)

Muskegon, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings battled for 60 minutes, but hot goaltending and a timely power-play goal for the Muskegon Lumberjacks proved to be the difference in the 'Jacks 3-2 victory.

Fresh out of the penalty box rookie defenseman Alex Lamontagne found the loose puck in the neutral zone, advanced it into the attack zone and unleashed a right circle slap shot to record his first goal as a professional.

Midway in the opening period, it was a K-Wings rookie, Bryan Jurynec, that was in the right place at the right time. Jurynec (2nd) put Kalamazoo on the scoreboard with a rebound marker from a Mark Nebus slap shot. The assist from Nebus gives the forward a three-game point streak and points in six of his last seven games.

The Lumberjacks regained the lead 16:57 into the first period, when Billy Collins won a face-off back to Chad Woollard. The veteran one-timed the face-off win past goaltender Jason Tapp to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead.

Muskegon added to their lead in the second stanza, as Todd Robinson found Woollard (12th) in front of the K-Wings crease for a power-play tally to extend their lead to two-goals.

Answering back less than two minutes later at 8:14, Anthony Battaglia (9th) deflected a Ryan Kindret shot past Isaac Reichmuth to cut the 'Jacks lead to 3-2.

Despite out-shooting Muskegon 12-10 in the third, Kalamazoo was unable to find the equalizer. Muskegon's Reichmuth was a difference maker in the contest, stopping 36 shots for the victory, including all 12 he faced in the final 20 minutes.
