Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Don Parsons, the veteran forward for the Bloomington PrairieThunder, has been named the Player of the Week in the International Hockey League for his performance in three games last week, league officials announced Monday.

Parsons became the all-time leader in professional minor league hockey for goals scored in a career when he netted three goals during the week. He scored two goals in Friday's game against Flint at U.S. Cellular Coliseum to give him 678 goals in 982 games during his 17-year career.

The previous record was held by former Flint player and coach Kevin Kerr, who retired in 2005 with 677 goals in 1,099 games.

Parsons added another goal in Saturday's game against Flint to push his career total to 679. It was initially reported that Parsons scored two goals in the game, but a review of game film verified that Parsons had an assist rather than a goal on Bloomington's fourth score. Corey Rutt was awarded the goal.

The 39-year-old Parsons also recently surpassed the 1,300-point plateau. He has 1,305 points to rank first among active players and 16th all-time. He needs five points to move into the top 15.

Parsons needs to appear in 17 more games to become only the 77th player in professional minor league hockey to play in 1,000 games. He ranks third among active players at 983 and also is third among active players in assists with 626. That mark ranks 47th all-time.

The Boston native leads the PrairieThunder in goals scored with 18. He also has 12 assists to rank second on the team in points with 30.
