ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington right wing Don Parsons has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron forward Derek Patrosso has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Fort Wayne goaltender Tim Haun has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 28th, 2008.
Parsons finished the week scoring four goals, including the record breaking goal Saturday night against Flint to become the all-time leader in goals scored in minor league hockey. The following night, he notched in two more goals, giving him a total of 680 career goals. He also notched in an assist Friday in the PrairieThunder's 3-2 shootout win in Fort Wayne. The 39-year-old Boston, Massachusetts native is currently riding a five-game point streak, scoring five goals and two assists (seven points) during the stretch.
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Fort Wayne left wing Konstantin Shafranov, Kalamazoo's Mark Nebus, Muskegon right wing Chad Costello and Port Huron left wing Jeff Zehr.
Patrosso finished the two games played by the Icehawks this past weekend dishing out three assists. He had two assists Friday night in the 6-5 overtime win against Muskegon. He also assisted on Jeff Zehr's game-winning goal the following night in the Icehawks 4-2 victory over the Komets. The 24-year-old Northville, Michigan native has posted 13 points so far in his rookie season, scoring four goals and nine assists in 24 games played.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik, Fort Wayne defenseman Jay Holladay, Kalamazoo defenseman Rob Jarvis and Muskegon defenseman Alex Lamontagne.
Haun earns his second weekly honor this season after winning his only game he started this weekend. He posted a .970 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average, giving him a overall average of 2.01 goals against so far this season. Haun made 32 saves in Fort Wayne's 5-1 victory over the Lumberjacks. The 28-year-old Solsgirth, Manitoba native has started four games since joining the Komets earlier this month, posting a 3-1-0-0 record.
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Ryan Ludzik, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp, Muskegon's Isaac Reichmuth and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
