Game Rewind Friday, November 7th Vs Port Huron (Port Huron 4-Kalamazoo 1)

Kalamazoo, MI - In the first half of a home and home series, Port Huron rung up three unanswered goals in the second period en route to a 4-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings.

A tightly played first period left the Kalamazoo Wings and Port Huron IceHawks scoreless after 20 minutes. The K-Wings were able to stifle the IceHawks potent first period offense, which leads the league in scoring with 15 goals in the first stanza.

The IceHawks got on the board at the 2:11 mark of the second period with a power play goal by Jamie Lovell (2nd).

Port Huron added to their total with two quick goals mid-way through the second period. A K-Wings give-away while on the power-play resulted in a short hander scored by Tab Lardner (1st) at 9:31. Less than two minutes later Jamie Carroll (6th) added the IceHawks third goal of the night, beating Jason Tapp over the left shoulder with a shot from the slot.

Glenn Detulleo pulled the K-Wings to within two at the 16:38 mark beating the defender on the left side and throwing a puck at the net that fooled goaltender Kevin Desfosses.

Port Huron put the game out of reach early in the third with Lardner's second tally of the night, which would give the Icehawks the eventual 4-1 victory.

Saturday, November 8th @ Port Huron (Port Huron 5-Kalamazoo 0)

Port Huron, MI - Living up to their statistics as the most prolific first period scoring team in the IHL, Port Huron banged in three first period goals to help the Icehawks secure a 5-0 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings.

Striking just 40 seconds into the contest, Kris Vernarksky (3rd) energized his team by scoring on a rocket over the glove hand of Joel Martin.

Midway through the first, Jeff Zehr's (1st) slap shot off the left hip of Martin extending the Icehawks lead to 2-0. Capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power-play late in the period, Daniel Tetrault (3rd) delivered Port Huron's third goal of the period. With the goals, the Icehawks have now outscored their opponents this season 18-8 in the first period.

The Icehawks put the game away in the second period by tacking on two more goals from B.J. Adams (1st) and Zehr (2nd).

After earning his first pro victory last night against Kalamazoo, rookie goaltender Kevin Desfosses turned aside 29 shots to preserve his first pro shutout.

Fast Forward

Kalamazoo will commence a two-game home stand this Friday, November 14th at 7:30 p.m. as they host the Flint Generals on Noisemaker Night presented by Meijer. The K-Wings are encouraging all fans to bring in a non-perishable food item, such as macaroni and cheese and use it as a noisemaker for the game. Following the contest, fans can donate their food item. All items collected will go to a local food pantry. Kalamazoo defeated Flint 6-5 in overtime in their previous meeting this year. The Generals start the week in third place in the IHL standings with nine points.

Hoping the force is with them, the K-Wings will entertain the Fort Wayne Komets this Saturday, November 15th at 7:30 p.m. on Star Wars Night. Besides being encouraged to dress as their favorite Stars Wars character, fans will have the opportunity to take pictures with characters from the movie. Photographs will occur at Hospitality Hall, which is located behind section 16. Photos will cost $5 with proceeds going to the Southwest Michigan Boy Scouts. Fresh off a 6-4 victory last Saturday versus Bloomington, the Komets snapped a two-game losing streak and stayed tied with Muskegon for first place in the league with 12 points.
