Flint Generals News Release
Flint, MI - The Flint Generals proud members of the IHL and Double A Affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings announced today the partnership with Send Santa to Baghdad on Saturday Nov. 22 when the Port Huron Icehawks visit Perani Arena and Event Center at 7:30 pm.
On that night Generals' fans will be asked to bring Christmas gifts for the troops to the arena and help pack a large bus that will be parked in the main lot.
The group has already collected the names and addresses of more than 200 military men and
women from the mid-Michigan area who are bravely protecting interests and fighting to defend freedom in the Middle East. The group has already received more than $1,000 in donations for postage.
The goal of the group this year is to send 500 Christmas gift packages to 500 troops which means they'll need to collect 5,000 pounds in gift items and $5,000 for postage.
Some of the items needed are powdered drink mixes, nonperishable candies, cookies, nuts, cakes, crackers, as well as telephone cards, AAA and AA batteries, sunblock, DVDs, CDs, books, puzzles, games - almost anything you'd like a loved one to have while serving in a place that doesn't have much of anything from home. But remember, gels, creams or liquids with alcohol in it can't be sent and they already have enough tooth paste, toothbrushes and popcorn.
Tickets for this game and all Flint Generals contests can be purchased at Perani Arena and Event Center Ticketmaster location or by charging by phone at 744-0580 or on line at www.flintgenerals.com.
Group tickets for 15 or more are a terrific way to reward employees at work or bring a church group or non-profit organization to a game. For more information contact the Generals Corporate Office at 742-9422.
