Desfosses earns IHL's first shutout of season

ROCHESTER, MI--- Port Huron rookie goaltender Kevin Desfosses earned the first shutout of the 08-09 season, and his first professional shutout Saturday as he closed the door on all 29 shots he faced versus Kalamazoo. Desfosses earned the shutout just one night after he earned his first pro win Friday in Kalamazoo. He wrapped up the home-and-home series versus the K-Wings giving up only one goal against, making a total of 59 saves in the two starts. He currently leads IHL goaltenders with a 1.33 goals against average and a .950 save percentage in three games played.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks have moved into a tie for first place with Fort Wayne in the IHL standings. Both teams have registered a 6-2-0-0 record for 12 points. The Lumberjacks and Komets are the only two teams who remain undefeated on home ice, with Muskegon winning four games at Walker Arena and Fort Wayne winning three at Memorial Coliseum.

Muskegon is also home to the IHL's leading scorer. Lumberjack center Todd Robinson is dominating the scoreboard, posting 21 points (9g, 12a) over the first eight games of the season. Robinson has registered points in seven of the eight games played by the Lumberjacks, registering six multi-point games and three multi-goal games.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-2-0-0) - Brett Holmberg scored his first two goals of the season in a span of 63 seconds during first period November 8th at Fort Wayne. Holmberg, Don Parsons and Jon Booras have scored at least one point in six of the team's eight games. Adam Tomkow scored the first goal by a rookie this year at Fort Wayne on November 8th. The PrairieThunder is 2 for 19, including a current 0 for 11 run, on power play opportunities, while the opponent is 6 for 19. Don Parsons has spent time in the penalty box in seven of the first eight games for a team-high 38 minutes. Last year in 75 games, he had only 90 minutes of penalties.

Flint Generals - (1-2-0-0) - The Generals play their fourth of six straight weeks of three games in three nights in a row with two home games and another on the road. The Generals won seven games against the Kalamazoo Wings last season, including three on the road at Wings Stadium where the blue and gold will be on Friday night. The Generals host the Fort Wayne Komets on Thursday night. Flint won three of its four games against the Komets at Perani Arena. Thursdays match-up will pit the two best specialty teams in the IHL as Fort Wayne ranks first on the power play and second in penalty kill, while the Generals are second on the power play and first in penalty kill. Flint leads the IHL in power play goals with 13 but has yielded a league low five power play goals against. The Generals have outscored their opponents 12-11 in the second period this season.

Fort Wayne Komets - (1-1-0-0) - Komets took a split of games played for the week and continue at the top of the IHL with a 6-2-0-0 record for 12 points. The Komets started the week with a 6-4 setback at Muskegon Friday night to allow the Lumberjacks a two-point gain. Saturday the Komets rebounded with a 6-4 home win over Bloomington. Veteran Colin Chaulk has registered points in each game he has appeared. After missing two games due to the flu, the center extended his point-scoring streak to six games (3g, 13a) with three assists in Saturday's 6-4 win over the PrairieThunder. Center Mathieu Curadeau has nine goals (four-way tie), left wing P.C. Drouin has two game winning goals (four-way tie), center Rick Varone leads rookies with six goals, seven assists and 13 points along with a +10, Guy Dupuis leads defensemen with four goals and 12 points. The Komets lead with 45 goals and have allowed a league-low 26 goals. The Komets attracted a crowd of 9,464 Saturday night and lead all minor league pro hockey in America in attendance with a per-game average of 9,115 after three home games.

Kalamazoo Wings - (0-2-0-0) - Jason Tapp is one game shy of 300 in his career. Dating back to last season, Kalamazoo has lost six straight to Port Huron. Lucas Drake is two points shy of 200 in his career. Glenn Detulleo's seven-game point streak and Jason Robinson's four-game assist streak both came to an end last Saturday. On Saturday, Kalamazoo signed forward Anthony Battaglia, he is the younger brother of former NHL'er and current AHL'er Bates Battaglia. The K-Wings best scoring period is the first, where they have netted 10 this year. The K-Wings will start a two-game home stand this weekend. Kalamazoo is 1-2-0-0 at Wings Stadium this year. On Saturday, besides being Star Wars Night and UKC Rally Towel Night, Kalamazoo will also unveil their fan voted on third jerseys.

Muskegon Lumberjacks - (3-0-0-0) - The Lumberjacks offensive attack has remained consistently potent thus far this season as they have scored a minimum of four goals-for in each of their first eight games of the season. Goaltender Isaac Reichmuth has appeared in all eight of the Lumberjacks games so far this season. He leads the IHL in victories with six. His six victories are three more wins than all other goaltenders in the IHL. Defenseman Darryl McArthur has recorded points in all eight Lumberjacks games, scoring a total of 11 points (2g, 9a). He is 14th overall in league-wide scoring, second among defenseman and leads the IHL with a plus-12 rating. The Lumberjacks are the best second period team in the league, outscoring the opposition 15-5 overall and 7-2 on home ice. Rookie center Maxime Lincourt is on a five game point streak, scoring a total of six points (4g, 2a) in the five game stretch. He has registered a goal in each of the Jacks games during their current three game win streak.

Port Huron Icehawks - (2-0-0-0) - The Icehawks came up with two big wins over the weekend and swept a home-and-home series with Kalamazoo. In the decisive wins, the Icehawks tallied a total of nine goals and gave up just one goal against. After starting the season 0-4, the Icehawks have now won four of their last five games and are on a three game winning streak at home. The Icehawks lead the league for first period goals with 18 and have outshot their opponents 18-8 in the opening stanza. They are 2-3 when leading after the first period and 4-0 when leading after the second period this season. After struggling on special teams as of late, the Icehawks reversed the trend in a big way this weekend with three power play goals and one shorthanded goal. Jamie Lovell scored a power play goal in the first period on Friday to snap a five game dry spell on the power play for the Icehawks. Nine-year pro Daniel Tetrault reached a career milestone on Friday and played in his 500th professional game. Several Icehawks are also quickly approaching milestones. Tab Lardner is one assist shy of 200 in his pro career, Nick Lindberg is three games away from playing in his 250th pro game and Jason Chafe needs two assists to reach 50 in his pro career.
