K-Wings Week In Review

The K-Wings started the week at home on Friday (10/25), as they entertained the Muskegon Fury at Wings Stadium. Muskegon jumped out to early lead, as the Fury scored three goals in the first 7:45 of the first period, including two goals from Scott Hollis (2,3). The K-Wings would cut the Fury lead to 3-1 midway in the second period, when Justin Cardwell (2) scored shorthanded. The score would stay 3-1 until late in the 3rd period, when the Fury would add an empty net goal from Andrew Luciuk (3), as the Fury would go on to defeat Kalamazoo by the final of 4-1. Receiving the loss between the pipes for the K-Wings was rookie goaltender Jeff Reynaert, who stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced in his season debut.

Kalamazoo would continue the week on Saturday (10/26), as they travel to Flint. The game was the third time in just 7 games the K-Wings had played the Generals. The K-Wings would get on the board first at the 7:16 mark of the opening period with a power play goal from Justin Cardwell (3). Flint would answer the K-Wings goal with two of there own, as the Generals would take a 2-1 lead into the second period. With no scoring in the second period, the Generals 2-1 lead would stand until the third period, when Cardwell (4) stuck again with his second power play goal of the game. The Generals counter with two goals from Jean-Francois Labarre (2,3), who would get his first hat trick of the season leading the Generals to a 4-2 victory over Kalamazoo. The K-Wings top star was Reynaert, who stopped a career high 46 saves in the game.

The K-Wings would conclude their three games in three nights with a game against Quad City. The Mallards special teams would dominate the game, going 4 for 6 against Kalamazoo. Quad City would score the games first six goals, and would carry a 6-nothing lead late into the third period. The K-Wings would receive their lone goal late in the period on a power play goal from Peter Roed (5th), as the K-Wings drop the contest to the Mallards by the final of 6-1. Despite the loss, the K-Wings were able to stop Steve Gibson from extending his 5th game-scoring streak, which entering Sunday's game was the longest in the UHL.

Fast Forward

The K-Wings will hit the frozen floors of the United Hockey League twice this weekend. The K-Wings will start the week on Friday, November 1st, as they travel to Muskegon to battle the defending Colonial Cup Champions, the Muskegon Fury. In their two previous meetings of the season, the visiting team as skated away with the victory. The K-Wings defeated the Fury in their first meeting of the season in Muskegon (K-Wings won 5-3 on 10/12/02). Muskegon evened the season series with a victory last weekend at Wings Stadium (Fury won 4-1 on 10/25/02). The Fury enter the game with a record of 3-3-1, and are 3 points ahead of Kalamazoo for fourth place in the Western Conference.

Kalamazoo will return home on Saturday, November 2nd, as they host the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 pm in Wings Stadium. The first 1,000 fans into Wings Stadium will receive a FREE K-Wings Magnetic Schedule courtesy of Meijer. This will be the first meeting between the K-Wings and the IceHogs. The K-Wings lead the all-time season series between the teams with a record of 15-10-5. The IceHogs start the week in second place in the Western Conference with a record of 4-2-1 (9 pts), and just one point behind Quad City for first place. Rockford is led by Jeremy Rebek, who is tied for 10th place in the UHL in scoring with 9 points.
