Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

The Baton Rouge Kingfish announced today that they have signed veteran forward Marquis Mathieu.

The 5'11", 190-pound center comes to the Kingfish with a wealth of experience. A veteran of the 16 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Mathieu has spent most of his career in the American Hockey League where he played 210 games amassing 100 points.

"He's another guy that comes here with experience," said Kingfish head coach Cam Brown. "He's a great guy to have on your team because he is a feisty centerman who can get under the opponents' skin."

In four seasons in the ECHL, the Hartford, Connecticut native picked up 178 points in 209 games, while totaling 876 penalty minutes in the ECHL.

"In years past at the level, he's been able to put up just about point-a-game numbers," said Browns, "plus, he's great on faceoffs, and he finishes his checks."

With the addition of Mathieu, the Kingfish are at their veteran limit of four joining Cheredaryk, Demmans and Norrie.
