K-Wings Sign Affliliation Agreement with New Jersey
October 4, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL, two-time defending North Division Champions and reigning Eastern Conference Champions and National Hockey League, announced the team has reached an agreement to be an affiliate of the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils and the American Hockey League's Albany Devils for the upcoming 2011-2012 season.
Under the affiliation arrangement, during the 2011-12 season, New Jersey will assign players to Kalamazoo. The K-Wings will also have the ability to receive players from the Devils' owned AHL club in Albany.
The affiliation with the Devils marks the second NHL club the K-Wings will be working with for the upcoming season. Last month, the K-Wings also signed an affiliation agreement with the Vancouver Canucks.
"We (K-Wings) are honored to be associated with two of the most prestigious organizations in the NHL," said K-Wings President Paul L. Pickard. "The Devils have created a culture of winning through their affiliations and we are delighted to be working with them to help develop their players."
Over the past decade, New Jersey has been one of the NHL's premiere teams winning five of the organization's nine division crowns during that span.
Since moving to New Jersey from Colorado in 1982, the Devils have made it to the Stanley Cup finals on four occasions and have captured the top prize in hockey three times (1994-95, 1999-00 and 2002-03).
"The development of our players at every level has always been a top priority for our organization," said Devils Senior Vice President Chris Lamoriello. "We look forward to working with the Kalamazoo Wings to help strengthen this process said."
With reaching this agreement, it marks the 10th occasion that the K-Wings have had an NHL affiliation and the first with New Jersey.
In their history, the K-Wings have been affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings (1974-1987), Philadelphia Flyers (1984-1987; 2009-2010), Vancouver Canucks (1984-1987; 2011-present), Minnesota North Stars (1987-1993), Dallas Stars (1993-2000), San Jose Sharks (2009-2010) and New York Islanders (2010-2011).
Kalamazoo will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 15th versus the Cincinnati Cyclones, with a 7:30 p.m. face-off at Wings Stadium. The K-Wings will host a FREE indoor pregame and postgame tailgate party with live music from Drop 35. Prior to face-off, the K-Wings will also raise their 2010-11 North Division and Eastern Conference Championship banners.
Single-game tickets for the upcoming 2011-2012 season are on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, please call Wings Stadium Ticket Office during regular business hours at (269) 345-5101.
