
Edmonton Assigns Goaltender Olivier Roy and Right Wing Cameron Abney From Oklahoma City

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced Edmonton has assigned goaltender Olivier Roy (WAH, Oh-liv-EE-yay) and right wing Cameron Abney (AB-nee) to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
The transactions increase the Thunder roster to 32 players for the 2011-12 training camp period.
Roy, 20, was selected by the Oilers in the fifth round (133rd overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and before the draft was ranked as the second highest North American goaltender by the Central Scouting Bureau. He suited up for the Oilers at the 2011 YoungStars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. and earned a win in his only appearance on Sept. 11 with 22 saves against the Vancouver Canucks.
The 6-foot and 180-pound goaltender was a member of Team Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships and earned 14 shutouts, a record of 123-57-8, save percentage of .906, and goals-against-average of 2.77 in 200 career games with Cape Breton and Acadie-Bathurst of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Roy was named to the Canadian Hockey League All-Rookie Team and received the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award in 2007-08. He achieved career best totals in saves (1367), shutouts (5) and goals-against-average (2.62) in 2009-10 with Cape Breton.
The Causapscal, Quebec native has three games of AHL experience with the Springfield Falcons, where he was 1-1-0 with a .913 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against-average in 2009-10.
Abney, 20, was selected by the Oilers in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and skated in two games for Edmonton at this year's YoungStars Tournament, collecting an assist, a +1 rating and fighting major.
The 6-foot-4 and 205-pound forward suited up in 180 career junior games in the Western Hockey League with the Everett Silvertips and Edmonton Oil Kings, collecting 37 points (14g-23a) and 298 penalty minutes.
Last season, Abney earned career highs in points (20), assists (13) and goals (7) with Edmonton while posting 72 penalty minutes along with a goal in four postseason games.
OPENING NIGHT AND TICKET INFORMATION
Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 14, when the Thunder opens the 2011-12 regular season at home against the Colorado Eagles, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The game will be a historic ECHL event to welcome in the Eagles, who will play in their inaugural game after spending the previous eight seasons in the Central Hockey League.
