K-Wings Announce Opening Night Roster and Captains

Kalamazoo, MI- Thursday signified the end of training camp round the ECHL and the Kalamazoo Wings wasted no time beginning their preparation for the regular season as the team announced their opening night roster and captains for the 2013-14 campaign.

Kalamazoo's opening night roster will feature 19 active players and one player (Aaron Clarke) starting the season on the 21-Day injured reserve.

The K-Wings will carry 11 forwards (John Armstrong, Matt Caria, Aaron Clarke, Ryan Del Monte, Dan Dries, Yanni Gourde, Ray Kaunisto, Eric Kattelus, Chris Lawrence, Ben Miller and Justin Taylor), seven defensemen (Sam Ftorek, Brandon Martell, Mike Matczak, Adam Polasek, Joe Sova, Elgin Reid and Ben Wilson) and two goaltenders (Jordan Binnington and Joel Martin).

Also, this afternoon the K-Wings announced their team captains for the 2013-14 season. Wearing the letters on this year will be Reid, Ftorek and Kattelus.

"All three players have shown they are leaders on and off the ice," said Nick Bootland, director of hockey operations/head coach. "Our captains have demonstrated they are team-first in their approach to the game and know what it takes to reach our ultimate goal."

A seven-year pro, Reid will wear the "C" for the K-Wings. Team captain for the K-Wings last year, the 2013-14 season will be Reid's third year with Kalamazoo.

Assistant captains for the 2013-14 season will be Ftorek and Kattelus. Ftorek, who is a 16-year veteran, is entering his fifth season with the K-Wings and has worn a captain's letter in each of his seasons in Kalamazoo. Kattelus, who is entering his third season as a professional, has spent a part of each of those seasons with the K-Wings.

Kalamazoo's 40th Anniversary season will commence this Saturday, October 19th with a 7:15 p.m. (CST) encounter at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana against the Evansville IceMen.

The K-Wings will drop the puck for their home opener on Saturday, October 26th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the IceMen during the 10th Annual Orange Ice Game presented by Meijer, WWMT and WZUU (92.5 FM). Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes for Halloween festivities including a K-Wings' best costume contest, where the team will have an adult and children's contest. The winner of both contests will receive $100.

Tickets for all 36 K-Wings home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Regular season ticket prices for home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 12 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and the New Year's Eve game) are just $1 more. Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance. Tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).

Fans that plan on attending multiple games can avoid service fees plus enjoy a discount from the single-game price by purchasing a 12, 24 or 36-game flexi-plan. These plans, along with full-season and group ticket packages may be ordered through the K-Wings Sales office by calling (269) 743-6011.
