Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce their 72-game schedule for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
The K-Wings regular season will run from October 16th-April 2nd. All 19 of the member clubs in the ECHL will play 72 games (36 home and 36 away).
Kalamazoo will start the season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday, October 16th.
The K-Wings home opener will occur the following Saturday, October 23rd, versus the Kelly Cup Champion, Cincinnati Cyclones. The game will also coincide with the K-Wings 7th Annual Orange Ice Game. Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes and participate in Halloween festivities. The Orange Ice clash will be the first of five premium night games on the K-Wings' schedule.
Other game highlights include a Thanksgiving Night (November 25th) clash with Greenville, formally the Johnstown Chiefs. On Friday, December 31st the K-Wings will host the Elmira Jackals during the 9th Annual New Year's Eve Bash, Saturday, January 29th versus the Gwinnett Gladiators during the 3rd Annual McDonald's Golden Ice Game and Monday, February 14th versus the Wheeling Nailers during the 10th Annual Pink Ice Game.
One of the most historic traditions in hockey will continue on Thursday, March 17th, when South Carolina visits Wings Stadium for the 30th Annual World Famous Fifth-Third Bank "Green Ice" Game. The contest will be one of three trips for the Stingrays to Vanrick Drive. Last season, South Carolina didn't make any visits to Wings Stadium.
This year, the K-Wings will be celebrating their 37th season of professional hockey and second in the ECHL, which features coast-to-coast hockey with 19 teams in 15 states and British Columbia. Kalamazoo will play 11 of the league's 19 teams.
The two teams the K-Wings battle the most this year are the Cyclones (15 games, 7 home and 8 away) and the Toledo Walleye (14 games, 6 home and 8 away). Each American Conference team will travel to Wings Stadium during the regular season; however, Kalamazoo will not visit Gwinnett or the Reading Royals.
Season tickets for the upcoming 2010-2011 season of K-Wings hockey are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Fans can purchase their tickets during regular business hours of Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. or by calling (269) 345-5101.
