K-Tribe Notes for July 8th

Kinston Indians News Release


Frederick scored 11 runs on 16 hits against the K-Tribe last night, the most hits Kinston has allowed in a game all season long. The previous high of 15 didn't last long, as Salem had 15 hits to start the second half on June 25 in a 12-0 shutout of Kinston. Kinston also produced double-digit hits, 11 total for the game. It was the seventh game this season that the K-Tribe has had double digit hits in the same game that it allowed 10 or more base knocks; in those games, the Indians have yet to win, as they are now 0-7 when both they and their opponent have double-digit hits.

Time After Time-After coming off its shortest nine -inning game of the season on Sunday at Wilmington, lasting just two hours and 12 minutes, Kinston found itself in another long game at Historic Grainger Stadium. All four games on the road finished under two hours and 40 minutes, but only one game so far in the eight second half games at home have lasted under three hours. Last night's game went three hours and 12 minutes and now the average time for the eight second half home games has been three hours and 21 minutes a contest.

Weekend at Wilmington- The K-Tribe wrapped up its four game series with Wilmington with a 2-0 shutout and a its first series victory since a rain shortened three-game set June 9th-10th at Myrtle Beach. It was also the first four game series Kinston has won this season, after splitting five, losing three of four twice and being swept once. The K-Tribe outscored the Blue Rocks 18-5, threw two shutouts and allowed just 21 hits in the four games.

We're Going Streakin'!-Four K-Tribe hitters are currently riding hitting streaks of six games or more. Lonnie Chisenhall has a nine game hit streak, as he has already had separate 12, 11 and eight game streaks this season. The Carolina League hit leader has yet to go three straight games without a base knock this season. The other Kinston hit-streaks include a eight-game streak for Cord Phelps, and six-game streaks for Ronald Rivas and Lucas Montero.

Unfamiliar Foes-Kinston will see a heavy dose of Frederick and Potomac over the next two weeks, as the K-Tribe plays its next 12 games against the northern division opponents, seven with the Keys and six with the Nationals. Kinston hasn't faced either team since May, and its last match-up with Frederick was May 22-24. The Keys have had the upper hand in the series so far, winning six of the seven games. Kinston is hitting .267 with a staff ERA of 6.30 vs. Frederick while the Keys are hitting.279 with an ERA of 4.50 against Kinston.

North vs. South - The K-Tribe will see a lot of the Northern Division in this season half. Kinston plays 39 of its remaining 59 games against the Northern Division, Including 13 more with Frederick and 14 with Potomac. Kinston also plays its last five series of the regular season against the Northern Division. The K-Tribe is 15-26 against the Northern Division this season, 17-22 against the Southern Division.
