Winston-Salem, NC (July 8, 2009) - Every member of the Dash recorded at least one hit, Anthony Carter tossed six strong innings, and Winston-Salem took down Salem 8-3 on Wednesday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Salvador Sanchez, Seth Loman, and Logan Johnson all homered for the Dash to break open a game that was all square at 1-1 through three innings. Sanchez' homer opened the fourth to give Winston the 2-1 edge, and Loman's came in the middle of a five-run fifth inning that made it 7-1 in favor of the Dash. After the Sox cut the deficit down to four, Johnson's eighth-inning blast made it 8-3 and ensured the big win for the Dash.

Carter improved to 7-4 and allowed just two runs on four hits over six innings. The righthander struck out five without walking anyone, yielding single runs in the second and sixth innings. Sergio Santos encountered turbulence in the seventh inning, even loading the bases to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in a 7-3 game. Levi Maxwell pitched the final two and a third innings without allowing a hit, inducing a fly out off the bat of Jason Place to escape the bases-loaded predicament in the seventh. Maxwell earned a save for his efforts, his first of the year.

Dale Mollenhauer and Brent Morel joined Sanchez and Johnson with multiple hits for the Dash as Winston drilled 12 base knocks in the game. With three doubles and three homers, half of the 12 hits went for extra-bases against Red Sox pitching.

Bryan Price allowed just one unearned run through the first three innings, but encountered trouble in the fourth and was finally pulled in the fifth. Price fell to 1-4 and was tagged for six runs (five earned) over four and a third innings. Kyle Fernandes and Josh Papelbon finished the ballgame, each giving up a run over the final three and two-thirds innings they combined to toss.

The offensive star for the Red Sox was Anthony Rizzo, who finished 3-3 with a single, double, and triple. Rizzo also walked to reach base in every plate appearance. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 2-4 with an RBI, while Che-Hsuan Lin went 1-4, with the lone hit being a solo homer in the sixth off Carter. With five home runs on the season, Lin ties Ryan Kalish and Luis Exposito for the team lead.

The Red Sox will complete their season-long ten game road trip on Thursday night, needing a win to split the four-game set with the Dash. So far on the trip, Salem has gone 5-4 during their three-city Odyssey. Kyle Weiland will start the finale against Justin Edwards at 7:00.
