Cincinnati Jungle Kats News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - For the first time in the 2007 season, the Cincinnati Jungle Kats will game-plan against a team they have already faced, as the Mahoning Valley Thunder come to town this Saturday night at 7:30pm from U.S. Bank Arena.
Both teams have quite a mountain to climb if they plan on making the playoffs in August; The Kats are 1-7 and have dropped three consecutive games including a tough loss in Green Bay a few weeks ago, where the Kats relinquished a 24-point lead over Green Bay to drop the game 48-38.
The Thunder, though, have struggled even more mightily; After starting the season 3-0, Mahoning Valley has lost five consecutive games - the third longest losing streak in af2. In fact, the last time the Thunder picked up a victory, was against Cincinnati on April 21st in Youngstown, Ohio when they defeated the Kats 54-20.
The Thunder offense is only averaging 22.4 points-per-game during the losing skid, yet three of the Thunder receivers average over 61 yards a game. WR DeMarcus Mathes recorded his second 100-yd receiving game last week against Manchester, catching nine passes for 122 yards.
Cincinnati's offensive, too, will have to improve if they are to pick up their second victory of the season. James Lewis will be a crucial key to victory this week as he continues his work as the lead active receiver; after recording just two receiving touchdowns in his first 7 games this season, Lewis had a breakout performance against Alabama last week. The second-year man out of Tuskegee University hauled in 10 catches for 103 yards and 3 TD's. Coming into the day, Lewis had earned 233 yards through the air. With the outstanding performance last Saturday, Lewis now has a team second-best 394 yards on the season behind the injured Derin Graham.
Great tickets for the game are still available by calling 513.381.TURF or online at www.JungleKatsFootball.com. Fans can hear all the action of Saturday's game on 1530 HOMER - The Sports Animal beginning at 7:15pm or watch the game live via the B2 Network.
